GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mel Trotter Ministries has extended its Code Blue emergency through January 30. It went into effect January 16.
Code Blue operations are initiated whenever the outside temperature or wind chills drop below 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
Mel Trotter opened its overflow capacity space in its main shelter at 225 Commerce Avenue, allowing more people to have a warm place to sleep each night. They also opened the overflow space in their Day Center.
Mel Trotter says in a recent news release that it "Exists to demonstrate the compassion of Jesus Christ toward anyone experiencing hunger and homelessness. MTM seeks to help end homelessness and walk with people on their faith journey. The nonprofit organization relies on the generosity of donors to provide comfort and compassion to our neighbors in need.
