Freeway closures in West Michigan after traffic incidents

WEST MICHIGAN -- Slippery roads and blowing snow are causing numerous traffic crashes and slide-offs around West Michigan today.

Due to a multi-car pile-up, I-196 in Zeeland Township is closed in both directions between the Hudsvonille and Zeeland exits. That comes after numerous crashes and slide-offs in that area, including multiple jackknifed semi-trucks. There were several crashes along that stretch, including a multi-vehicle pile-up that involved about 100 vehicles.

At 10:19 a.m. ... Two semi-trucks collided on I-196 westbound in Zeeland Township, just before the Byron Road exit, per Ottawa County Central Dispatchers. There was no early word on whether there were any injuries. That is near the transition where I-196 merges with I-96

Around 10 a.m., two semi-trucks were jackknifed and blocking I-96 westbound at Walker Avenue. WOOD Radio reported from the scene that Michigan State Police and Walker fire-rescue crews were there.

At 9:45 a.m., southbound M-40 remained shut down between 138th Avenue in Fillmore Township and 48th Street in Holland due to a jackknifed semi. Allegan County Dispatchers told WOOD Radio that Lincoln Road was shut down while crews tried to get the semi off the roadway.

Around 8:20 a.m., in Zeeland Township, eastbound I-196 was shut down around 8:20 this morning after a semi jackknifed and blocked both lanes. The road was closed between Byron Road in Zeeland and 32nd Avenue in Hudsonville.

Ottawa County Central Dispatch reported multiple vehicles in the ditch on eastbound I-96 in Crockery Township.

Those were just some of the many traffic- and weather-related incidents.
