GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mel Trotter Ministries has declared a Code Blue emergency that will remain in effect until, at least, Thursday.
Code Blue operations are initiated whenever the outside temperature or wind chills drop below 10 degrees Fahrenheit.
Mel Trotter says it plans to open its overflow capacity space in its main shelter at 225 Commerce Avenue SW, allowing more people to have a warm place to sleep each night.
They also are opening the overflow space in their Day Center. And members of their Outreach team will increase patrols throughout the city this weekend, searching for people living on the street who are homeless and who may need shelter.
