GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Bovee Pilates has been a staple in East Grand Rapids for 19 years, and on Friday, January 16, it will celebrate the grand opening of a second location at Knapp's Corner, 2211 E Beltline NE.
Pilates is a mind-and-body system of exercise that focuses on core strength and flexibility with controlled movements and deep breathing.
Founder/instructor Ahme Bovee explained in a telephone interview with WOOD Radio why they're opening their second Pilates studio.
"The location in East Grand Rapids (2213 Wealthy St. SE) is bursting at the seams," she said. "(We are) a regional training center for Pilates instructors. So, we were ready to expand to a larger space.
The new, 3,500-square-foot facility at Knapp's Corner will allow Bovee Pilates to bring in people from around the country who want to train as Pilates instructors.
The grand opening will run from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the high-end luxury studio.
"We have a deejay, we have food, we have drinks. We have a red-carpet entry and some fun lighting going on," Bovee said.
She is an internationally known Pilates instructor.
