OCSO: No threat to public after home invasion, assault in Jenison

GEORGETOWN TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- Ottawa County Sheriff's investigators think a 32-year-old Grand Rapids man who allegedly broke into a Jenison home Thursday morning has fled the area.

It occurred around 5:30 at an apartment on Baldwin Street east of Cottonwood Drive. Sheriff's Captain Jake Sparks told WOOD Radio the man allegedly assaulted a 32-year-old woman with whom he had a prior relationship.

"The subject was armed with a handgun at the time," Sparks said. "And that was the reason for the heavy response. Tactical units, drone team, K-9 were all in the area as well as crisis negotiators, in case we could find him and get him to turn himself in safely."

The woman suffered minor injuries. A seven-month-old infant and two children ages 9 and 14 were in the home at the time.

"The search still continues at this point, but no immediate threat to the public or anything there," Sparks said.

This incident remains under investigation and anyone with information is asked to contact the Sheriff's Office or Silent Observer at 1-877-88-SILENT (745368) or mosotips.com.
