SAUGATUCK TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- One lane of northbound Interstate 196 in Saugatuck Township has reopened following a fiery crash involving a semi-truck on Monday morning (December 29). The crash led to the closure of the highway from 68th Street to Blue Star Highway. The left lane of I-196 remains closed, as does Old Allegan Road underneath the interstate.

The Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) estimates that both lanes of I-196 will be fully reopened by March 2, 2026, after necessary repairs are completed. The driver of the semi-truck, Zadairreis Parson from Chicago, is currently recovering at a hotel in Holland after being hospitalized due to the accident.

The incident has caused significant disruption in the area, and MDOT is working to expedite repairs to minimize the impact on traffic. Motorists are advised to plan for potential delays and seek alternate routes if possible until the highway is fully operational again.
