GRPD identifies victim of fatal shooting, but not person of interest

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Grand Rapids Police say the victim of Sunday's fatal shooting on the city's southeast side has been identified as Detroit Jones.

The 38-year-old was shot around 1:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Lafayette Ave., which is north of MLK Jr. Street (formerly known as Franklin St.).

Police said Jones died a short time later at a hospital. The GRPD added that an autopsy confirms it was a homicide. They took a person of interest into custody about two hours after the shooting, around 3:30 a.m. That person's name had not been released at the time of this report Monday afternoon.
