Barry Sanders Joins Michigan Sports Council

LANSING, Mich. -- Governor Gretchen Whitmer has appointed Pro Football Hall of Famer Barry Sanders to the Governor's Council on Physical Fitness, Health, and Sports. Sanders, renowned for his illustrious career with the Detroit Lions, will serve on the council until April 30, 2026. He takes over from Willie Burton, who previously held the position.

During his NFL career, Sanders was a standout player, winning the league's Most Valuable Player award in 1997 and leading the NFL in rushing yards four times. His appointment to the council highlights his ongoing commitment to promoting physical fitness and sports within Michigan.
