Police arrest two teenage suspects in shots-fired incident in Kentwood

KENTWOOD, Mich. -- Kentwood Police and Kent County Sheriff's deputies have arrested two teenagers who were booked on charges related to a shots-fired incident Tuesday night.

It happened around 7 o'clock in the area of 60th Street and Kalamazoo Avenue, near the Gaines Township border.

Kentwood Police Captain Tim Wierenga tells WOOD Radio two guys matching the suspects' description were seen walking in the area a short time later and taken into custody. He says one is 17 years old and the other is 18.

"The officers just did an outstanding job following up with that," Wierenga said. "Getting in there real quick. And the subjects were relatively cooperative, as well, when they got ahold of them."

Police say they found a stolen gun and an unregistered firearm on the suspects.

Anyone with more information is asked to contact the Kentwood Police Department Detective Bureau at 616-656-6604. Anonymous tips can be submitted through Silent Observer at 616-774-2345 or SilentObserver.org.
