Buildings in Eastown getting knocked down for new mixed-use development

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Three buildings along Robinson Road in Eastown are being torn down over the next week-and-half for a mixed-use project that'll include 24 housing units and retail.

After demolition, work will start on Robinson Road Flats.

The developer said he worked closely with the city and local neighborhood groups while designing the project.

"I care about communities, opinions and suggestions and I take it very serious," U. Turan told WOOD-TV. "And then I try to accommodate so it works for everybody, not just for the developer."

The original plan was for a three-story building. He was asked to add a fourth floor for additional housing.

Other changes included added a brick facade to make it blend better with the rest of the neighborhood.
