TALLMADGE TOWNSHIP, Mich. -- The Ottawa County Sheriff's Office says 20-year-old Westen Meulenberg of Jenison has been arraigned in connection with a fatal shooting on May 9.
It happened at a party on 2nd Avenue in Tallmadge Township. Police say a bullet was fired through the floor from upstairs and struck 19-year-old Connor Lotterman in the head.
Police say Meulenberg was formally charged (arraigned) Thursday on a charge of Discharging a Firearm in a Building Causing Death. Bond was set at $50,000.
Police think alcohol played a role in the shooting.
The OCSO said in a news release, "The Ottawa County Prosecuting Attorney's Office issued criminal charges on 6/4/25 and the suspect was lodged at the Ottawa County Jail on 6/5/25. This morning, Meulenberg was arraigned by judge Judith Mulder via video in the 58th District Court on charges of Discharging a Firearm in a Building Causing Death. Bond was set at $50,000- 10% cash/surety and Meulenberg remains in custody."
