GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - There will be 15 fewer voting precincts in Grand Rapids for next year's midterms.
The Grand Rapids City Commission voted 6-1 yesterday to make that move.
Third Ward Commissioner Kelsey Perdue was the only "no" vote.
"My concern with this proposal is the disparate impact it will have on some parts of our community," Perdue said during a morning meeting before the vote.
The move decreases the number of precincts to 59.
The First Ward and Second Ward will each have 20, while Ward 3 will have 19.
Three soon-to-be eliminated precincts will be in in Ward 1, five will be in Ward 2 and seven will be in Ward 3.
It's expected around 13 percent of voters in the city will be impacted.
