SOUTH HAVEN (WOOD-AM) - South Haven, once again, needs to hire a new chief of police.
The city says Dennis Honholt never quit his prior job in Dover, Tennessee.
Honholt resigned from the job in South Haven yesterday and is still listed on Dover's website as that city's public safety director.
Honholt is not commenting on the situation at this time.
"I don’t have to explain anything and I’m not going to." Honholt told a newspaper in Dover. "I’ve already said that I’m going to make a statement.”
"City leadership was shocked and disappointed to learn Honholt failed to resign his position in Tennessee once he accepted the position as our police chief," South Haven City Manager Kate Hosier said in a statement to WOOD-TV.
"When Honholt was hired on April 1, it was with the explicit understanding that serving as our police chief was to be his exclusive employment," Hosier said. "We accept his resignation."
