GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Mel Trotter Ministries will celebrate its annual Easter community meal next Wednesday, April 16.
It will run from noon to 2:30 p.m. at its downtown Cook Cafeteria, 225 Commerce Ave. SW, near Cherry Street.
The meal is served to people experiencing homelessness, and anyone seeking fellowship. Mel Trotter anticipates about 400 people will attend. It is looking for volunteers to help prepare and plate the food, and help with the cleanup.

Roughly 400 guests are expected to attend this year’s Easter meal. Mel Trotter Ministries is looking for community volunteers to help prepare and plate the food, as well as help with clean-up. Those interested in volunteering can register on the MTM Volunteer Portal.
Easter Meal Menu:
- Starters: Tri-color Pasta Salad and Deviled Eggs
- Choice of Meats: Glazed Ham, Lemon-Thyme Sheet Pan Chicken, Roasted Beef
- Choice of Sides: Creamy Mashed Potatoes, Gravy, Red Beans & Rice, Candied Carrots, Southern Greens, Dinner Roll with Butter
- Desserts: Pumpkin Pie with Whipped Topping and Cookies

- Mel Trotter Ministries demonstrates the compassion of Jesus Christ to anyone through its shelter and guest services, its distribution of clothing and hygiene items and its Outreach programs.
- In 2024, Mel Trotter provided shelter, food, or services to 4,870 individuals, including 185,768 meals.
- Homelessness can result from a number of factors including loss of job/income, unexpected health issues, mental illness, substance abuse addiction, and a limited supply of affordable housing.
- Mel Trotter Ministries is working to end homelessness through its prevention and diversion programs, as well as its addiction recovery, workforce development and housing programs such as Hope Village.
