USDA billion-dollar cut to impact West Michigan food banks

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Feeding America West Michigan president and chief executive Ken Estelle says he feels uneasy about a billion-dollar USDA cut for schools and food banks.

He says his organization is looking at the possibility of $1 million worth of food getting paused.

"There would be probably over two million meals of food that would not, that we were planning on getting even in the next three to four months so it’s a lot of impact," Estelle told WOOD-TV.

"We are still waiting to hear on what is actually going to happen," Estelle said. "We are hopeful that things will maybe get reviewed, and these programs get restarted or turned back on but until we know we are looking at what options we have to fill in that gap."
