GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - "Ford at 50: Decisions That Defined a Presidency" is opening today at the Ford Presidential Museum in Grand Rapids.

Today is the 50th anniversary of Gerald Ford becoming President after the resignation of Richard Nixon.

"We picked out artifacts, documents, photographs that we wanted to help tell that story and then worked on building up that exhibit that could really immerse visitors in these different decisions," Supervisory Curator Mirelle Luecke told WOOD-TV.

Ford's eldest son, Mike, said he is thrilled to see younger people learn about his father.

"Particularly for our younger Americans, this generation that has maybe lost interest in government, lost faith in the political process and our democracy, that this could help rekindle their appreciation for this great nation and democracy that we have and reengage and help to not just preserve it but make it stronger," Ford said.
