GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- A Michigan State Police trooper had pulled up on the scene of an accident early Sunday morning on northbound US-131, when he heard the sound of screeching tires behind him.
State Police say a minivan skidded on wet pavement and hit the police cruiser, propelling it into a car that was disabled following the earlier accident.
It happened near the Wealthy Street off-ramp around 3:30 a.m. Police say the trooper was inside his patrol car at the time and the driver of the disabled vehicle was in his car. The trooper suffered minor injuries, and the driver of the minivan suffered a head injury and was taken to a hospital.
Investigators are looking into whether alcohol may have played a role in the second crash.
State Police posted on social media a statement that read, in part, "This is an example of why we ask motorists to slow down on wet roadways." End quote.
