Alleged driver in fiery Easter Sunday crash on US-131 charged

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Grand Rapids Police say a 20-year-old woman has been charged in connection with an Easter Sunday traffic crash on US-131.

The GRPD says Ericka Horan was charged with  two counts of Operating While Intoxicated causing serious injury, two counts of reckless driving causing serious impairment of a body function, and OWI with an occupant under 16, and child abuse--2nd degree.

"Horan is currently lodged at the Ionia County Jail on unrelated charges," the GRPD said in a news release.

The crash occurred around 7:15 a.m. on March 31 on the northbound side of the freeway near the Wealthy Street exit ramp. One vehicle rolled over and the other was engulfed in flames. The northbound lanes were shut down for nearly two hours after police responded to a second two-car crash nearby. No one was hurt in that incident.

Regarding the first crash, police said that an SUV rolled over after hitting the back of a car, causing the car to catch on fire. Grand Rapids firefighters extinguished the fire.

Five people were inside the SUV, including a one-year child who was not hurt. Two other people were taken to a hospital for treatment.
