PD: Man drowns in Pere Marquette Lake

LUDINGTON, Mich. (WOOD) — Authorities continue to search for the body  of a man who is believed to have drowned in Pere Marquette Lake.

Around  7 p.m. Sunday, authorities were called to Pere Marquette Lake between  the Ludington Boat Club and Ludington Yacht Club for a water rescue.

The  Ludington Police Department said a group of three adults and three  children were boating in the area when the wind blew a tube into the  water. A 38-year-old Manistee County man jumped into the water but then  indicated he was having trouble swimming.

A  life jacket was thrown to the man, but the wind blew it away from him.  The driver of the boat circled back around but was unable to find the  man, the police department said.

Boats and dive teams from the  Mason County Sheriff’s Office and LPD arrived at the scene within  minutes but searches that lasted into early morning hours were  unsuccessful, according to a LPD new release.

The search continued Monday morning with the help from Michigan State Police.

Police said there are no signs alcohol was a factor in the incident.
