Natron Energy apprises State of Michigan it is closing Holland plant

HOLLAND, Mich. -- Thirty-seven Natron Energy employees in Holland stand to lose their jobs today (Sept. 3), if the company carries through with plans to shutter the plant on West 48th Street.

The maker of rechargeable sodium ion batteries apprised the state of the planned layoffs in a letter last week.

Natron said in the letter that it was hoping to forestall the closure of the plant in Holland and another where it is based in Santa Clara, California, and that's why it didn't give the usual 60 days' advance notice.

Natron said it was trying to gather capital and commercial business so it could postpone or prevent the plant closures. Fifty-eight employees were slated to lose their jobs in Santa Clara, as well.

The letter explains in detail why Natron's board of directors felt confident it would procure the necessary financing and resources to prevent the plant closings.
