The CDC is awarding the Muskegon YMCA a grant to teach water safety to students.
The YMCA is the first organization in the state to receive funding from the CDC Foundation's Understand and Preventing Drowning initiative.
The funding will be used to support the Safety Around Water program which teaches youth in the county how to keep themselves and others safe around water.
The YMCA partners with 10 area schools to teach students how to swim, rip currents, life jacket safety and tips for being around frozen water.
