The Michigan PFAS Action Response Task Force is declaring a former Grand Rapids landfill a PFAS contamination site.
MPART says Butterworth #2 Landfill had multiple test results that contained PFAS levels exceeding safety standards.
Three wells along the Grand Rive showed the worst results.
The EPA prioritized the site in 1983 which required monitoring for at least 30 years.
In 2019, The Michigan Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy requested the landfill be sampled for PFAS contamination as the site previously accepted waste from known contaminators.
