The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is approving a proposal to allow certain e-bikes in parks and on trails.
The proposal breaks e-bikes down into three categories.
Class 1 bikes only run if the rider is pedaling and top out at 20 mph. Class 2 bikes run whether a rider is pedaling or not and also top out at 20 mph. Class 3 bikes top out at 28 mph.
Class 1 bikes will be allowed on trails while Class 2 bikes are reserved for individuals with mobility issues that seek a permit for the bike.
