MI DNR proposing allowing e-bikes on trails

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is proposing allowing electric bikes in state-owned trails on parks.

The proposal would allow Class 1 e-bikes on trails and Class 2 e-bikes only for individuals with mobility issues that seek out a permit.

Class 1 e-bikes motors only run if the rider pedals the bike while Class 2 e-bikes run whether the rider pedals or not.

The policy is being presented to the Natural Resource Commission on Thursday.
