The projected tallest building in the United States, which will surprisingly be located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, has been approved for "unlimited height," according to Dezeen.com.
Last Tuesday (June 4), the Oklahoma City Council approved a new zoning application for the Legends Tower, removing height restrictions, which would allow it to be 1,907 high, having initially planned to be 1,750 feet prior to the request.
"AO is delighted that the Oklahoma City Council has approved the development team's request for unlimited height for the Boardwalk at Bricktown," said AO Architects.
Plans to build the building were approved in April, however, several hurdles still need to be met, including its proposed digital signage spanning across all four of its towers, which has been the most contentious in prior rezoning presentations, according to the Oklahoman. The Legends Tower will surpass One World Trade Center as the tallest building in the country, as well as make Oklahoma City the only metropolis outside of New York City and Chicago to have one of the top 10 tallest buildings in the U.S.
“The symbolic height honors the year that Oklahoma was admitted as the 46th state of the United States,” Matteson Capital said in a statement obtained by the Oklahoma City Free Press in January.
The building is also projected to be the fifth tallest globally, behind the Burj Khalifa in the United Arab Emirates, Merdeka 118 in Malaysia, Shanghai Tower in China, and Abraj Al-Bait Clock Tower in Saudi Arabia.
The structure will also include three other towers estimated to be about 345 feet tall as part of plans for 1,776 residential units, two Hyatt hotels, condos and 110,000 square feet of commercial and community use space.
