MSP officer "elects to retire" after second-degree murder charge

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - A Michigan State Police spokesperson says a detective sergeant who is accused of killing someone with his cruiser has "elected to retire."

Brian Keely was in an unmarked vehicle when he struck Samuel Sterling, who was attempting to run from officers.

Sterling was wanted on outstanding warrants.

Authorities say Sterling fled after he was approached at a gas station near 52nd and Eastern.
