GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - There was a candlelight vigil in downtown Grand Rapids yesterday to mark the two-year anniversary of the officer-involved shooting death of Patrick Lyoya.
Lyoya's brother, Thomas Lyoya, spoke to WOOD-TV.
"We try to show up to this stuff and always hope that it will make a difference," he said.
Patrick Lyoya, 26, was shot by Christopher Schurr during a struggle after a traffic stop.
Schurr's attorneys say the former police officer's use of force was appropriate and that Lyoya had grabbed Schurr's taser during the incident.
Schurr has been charged with second-degree murder.
Schurr's legal team says they intend to appeal up to the Michigan Supreme Court.
