The Detroit Lions management say Cam Sutton was working out at the facility when news broke he was wanted in Florida for an alleged domestic violence incident.
President Rod Wood says he was on a conference call when the news broke and members of the staff were able to meet with Sutton and recommend he get a lawyer and turn himself in.
The team says Sutton left the facility and days later decided to release him with cause when it appeared he would not be turning himself in.
The Lions have a zero-tolerance policy for domestic violence.
