Former GRPD officer asks court to rethink case

The attorneys for former Grand Rapids Police Officer Christopher Schurr are asking the Michigan Court of Appeals to reconsider their ruling that the case should go to trial.

Schurr is charged with second-degree murder for the shooting death of Patrick Lyoya on April 4,2022.

Schurr's attorneys argue the appeals court sited information that was misstated or misconstrued in their opinion.

Prosecutors argue Schurr was not justified for the shooting of Lyoya while his defense says his actions were justified.
