Weapon-wielding man shot by Grand Rapids officers charged

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Charges have been filed against a man who was seen in body camera footage charging at Grand Rapids Police Department officers with a box cutter prior to getting shot twice.

Twenty-year-old Nodin Chervenka was booked into jail on Friday. He was charged with felonious assault and resisting a police officer.

The incident began after officers were called to Union Avenue and Innes Street. A caller said someone was inside a business threatening customers.
