Local police: Be aware of thieves pretending to be city employees

Local officials are warning West Michiganders to be aware of people pretending to work for the city to then steal from your home.

Ottawa County Sheriff's deputies say a Holland Township homeowner opened his door to a man who said he worked for the city and was there to check for lead in his water on December 12.

The man threatened to fine the homeowner if he wasn't able to check out the home.

Officials believe the man led the homeowner around the home, allowing a second suspect to enter the home and steal from a bedroom.

Grandville and Wyoming Police also posted a warning about similar situations to the Facebook pages.
