Major restoration underway at Sullivan Field

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - A restoration at Sullivan Field is now underway.

Fans of Valley Field co-founder Paul Soltysiak says the changes will bring new life to the facility, which dates back to the 1930s.

"We can have more serious tournaments, make money, make it more self-sustaining," Soltysiak said.

The historic west-side ballpark is getting a new roof, rebuilt grandstands, a new entrance, fencing and a museum.

$3.7 million has been raised. Soltysiak says a capital campaign has been launched to secure the final $500,000 for the project.
