GR City Commission to vote on begging, homeless ordinances

The Grand Rapids City Commission is scheduled to vote on ordinances addressing harassment from people who are homeless.

The ordinances include regulations on panhandling near ATMs and outdoor dining areas and would allow items to be confiscated if left in public right of ways and parks.

The American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan says the ordinances criminalize the homeless.

Businesses in the downtown area say the ordinances will help with safety.
