MI Attorney General warns residents of state debts scam

(WOOD-AM) - Business and employees are being targeted in a recent debt collection scam that is claiming Michiganders have debts owed to the state.

The Michigan Department of Treasury and the Unemployment Insurance Agency are being used as the alleged senders of the fraudulent letters being mailed out.

Recipients are being told to make immediate payment of overdue state debt by calling a toll-free number. The letters claim that failure to pay will result in seizure of wages, business assets and bank accounts.
