GR skywalk access to be restricted after-hours

Security concerns are prompting a Grand Rapids building owner to restrict access to the skywalk during the overnight hours.

The skywalk connects DeVos Place to Van Andel Arena through a series of buildings.

The walk was developed as a public-private partnership, however building owners have control of portions of the path that run through their building.

Plaza Towers will soon be requiring a keycard to enter the skywalk during the late night to early morning hours.

Eenhorn LLC owns Plaza Towers and did not provide details as to why the policy is being implemented however police say they responded to a call in May after a person threw a can at a Plaza Towers security guard.
