The City of Grand Rapids is encouraging residents to water their trees despite the rain in recent days.
The Grand Rapids Parks and Recreation Department's forestry division says the dry conditions can be very harmful to trees.
The city says supplemental water can help established trees and newly planted trees make it through the summer.
Officials say trees have deeper roots which require slow and steady watering.
