Governor Gretchen Whitmer is signing a bill into law that marks June 12 as Women Veterans Recognition Day.
The legislation was introduced by State Representative Julie Rogers of Kalamazoo.
The day has been recognized in the state since 2018, however only as a proclamation that was introduced each year.
Women were not granted veteran status until 1980.
