KALAMAZOO (WOOD-AM) - Trustees at Western Michigan University have approved a plan that would allow beer, wine and seltzer sales at Waldo Stadium during football games.

Athletic Director Dan Bartholomae said other stadiums in the Mid-American Conference already sell alcohol.

"We put together a fan experience committee and got consistent feedback that that was a fan amenity that was desired by our fanbase," Bartholomae said.

Bartholomae says it would be possible using a series of one-day special event liquor licenses. The plan is separate from a push by state lawmakers that would allow permanent liquor sales at college football, basketball and hockey venues.
