Grand Rapids City Commission to hold hearing on drone request from GRPD

The Grand Rapids City Commission is holding a hearing Tuesday night to get public comment on a request from the Grand Rapids Police Department to purchase and use drones.

GRPD Chief Eric Winstrom says they want to purchase six drones and train 10 officers to use them in mission based situations.

Winstrom says the drones would not be used for surveillance.

The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. and will be livestreamed for the public.
