MI Senate votes to end ban on unmarried cohabitation

The Michigan Senate is passing a bill that would end the ban on unmarried people living together.

The law has been in place for almost a century.

Cohabitation outside of marriage could result in a misdemeanor punishable with a one year sentence or $1,000 fine.

It is unclear when the law was last enforced.

All Senate Democrats and half of Republicans voted in favor of updating the law.
