Recreational rapids will no longer be constructed in the Grand River.
The city of Grand Rapids has taken on the restoring the rapids plan to make the Grand River a major point of downtown revitalization.
The city had planned to place rocks and other structures in the water to create rapids or whitewater, however the state is rejecting the idea.
President and CEO of Grand Rapids WhiteWater Steve Heacock says they thought everyone had agreed on the plan so its disappointing to get the news.
The project was projected to bring in $22 million in tourism for the city.
