The Michigan House has passed an expansion to the Elliott-Larsen Civil Rights Act.

The 1977 law protects individuals from discrimination against race, sex, weight, religion, national origin, height, marital status or familial status in connection to public spaces, education and housing.

The expansion adds protections for gender expression and sexual orientation.

The bill is now headed to Governor Whitmer's desk for her signature.
