Lawsuit claims Allegan Public Schools didn't stop sexual abuse

A lawsuit filed by a former student alleges Allegan Public Schools administrators failed to act despite several sexual harassments allegations against a teacher.

James Baird is facing decades in prison for allegedly sexually assault four girls at Garden City and Westland schools between 2018 and 2020.

Multiple girls in Allegan County had already accused him of sexual abuse over a decade ago.

The lawsuit claims administrators knew about the alleged incidents as early as 2007.

Baird was allowed to remain in his position as a part-time teacher and swim coach despite an internal investigation.
