GRPS recognizing students in Social Justice contest

Grand Rapids Public Schools is announcing the winners of the 18th annual "Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Social Justice Legacy Contest".

The contest was open to all GRPS sixth grade students and asked individuals to identify and react to a racial social justice issue that is meaningful to them.

Ca'Niyah Sutton, a Westwood Middle School student, took first place for her painting "Do What's Right," which inspires people to do the right thing no matter the situation.

Remington Davis, a Center for Economicology student, took second place for an essay on how injustice against people of color impacts their experiences.
