The Ottawa County Board of Commissioners is hiring John Gibbs to serve as county administrator after they ousted John Shay, who held the position, during their meeting on Tuesday.
The commissioners voted 6 to 3 to approve the firing and immediate hiring.
Commissioner Sylvia Rhodea of Allendale Township introduced the motion.
Commissioners Roger Bergman of the Tri-Cities area, Doug Zylstra of Holland and Rebekah Curran of Georgetown Township voted against the motion.
Commissioners also voted to remove the county's Administrative Health Officer, close the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Department and change the language of the county's vision statement.
