John Ball Zoo home to endangered butterflies over the winter

John Ball Zoo will be home to endangered butterfly caterpillars over the winter.

The Poweshiek Skipperling tiny butterfly used to be native to the Midwest.

John Ball zoo curator Dan Hemmann says they have 500 caterpillars they are wintering at the zoo.

The caterpillars are stored in vials in environmentally controlled chambers.
