DeVos Children's Hospital asking to add beds to manage RSV surge

Helen DeVos Children's Hospital is looking to add beds to the hospital to manage a surge in respiratory syncytial virus, or RSV.

The state would need to issue an emergency certificate of need to add 48 beds to the hospital and to designate 117 beds for intensive care.

Corewell Health says they hope they do not need the extra beds, however they want to be prepared.

The hospital expects the surge could last for many weeks.
