MI firearm deer season opening day comes with new requirement

Hunters are celebrating opening day of firearm deer season in Michigan.

Those heading out into the woods should also be aware of a new reporting requirement.

Hunters must report all successful deer harvests to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources within 72 hours or before transferring possession of the deer.

The DNR previously would send out post-season harvest surveys however, their response rates have plummeted in recent years.
