Man arrested, K9 stabbed after hours-long standoff in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS (WOOD-AM) - Grand Rapids police have a 24-year-old in custody following an hours-long standoff that started last night.

Police had a home surrounded in the area of Leonard Street and Walker Avenue on the northwest side of the city around 8:30 p.m.

They say the suspect fired shots when he barricaded himself in his home. He climbed onto the roof around 11:30 p.m.

The suspect was arrested after a police dog was sent inside the home. The dog suffered life-threatening injuries after getting stabbed.

The man was taken to the hospital after getting bitten.
