Energy companies still working to restore power

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - Consumers Energy says they are still helping thousands of customers restore power on Monday, after a total of 140,000 across the state were left without power after wind gusts of up to 65 mph on Saturday.

The utility says it is prioritizing restoring power to polling places by 11 p.m. Monday, so outages do not interfere with Election Day on Tuesday.

As of early Monday morning, Consumers’ outage map showed about 49,000 customers across the state were without service. How many customers were affected in West Michigan by county:

  • Allegan County: 1,165
  • Barry County: 978
  • Branch County: 206
  • Calhoun County: 747
  • Kalamazoo County: 1,837
  • Kent County: 107
  • Montcalm County: 92
  • Newaygo County: 437
  • Van Buren County: 1,165
